Outpouring of gifts and time from Franklin County citizens establish Women's Shelter and Services
Shelter Building Dedicated
in March 2008
Following is excerpt from Women's Shelter Board President Jill Robinson presentation at dedication ceremony.
"We have come a long way since that rainy night in November 2004, when 40 people first gathered in the basement of South Frankfort Presbyterian Church to discuss the idea of providing a place for women and children to call home while they attempt to create a healthy environment for themselves and their children.
Almost four years later here we are. It has been a long journey not only to open many doors, but to also obtain these doors to open.
As we began understanding the magnitude of the need in Franklin County and surrounding communities, we became more determined to succeed. There are so many people to thank for the contributions of time, funding, work, materials, energy, and talents, but mostly we thank you for your faith that one day this WOULD happen.
It is with tremendous gratitude that we celebrate the official opening of the Franklin County Women’s Shelter, Inc. Women and children in Franklin County now have a safety net to catch them before they fall."
